If you aren’t too familiar with interior design, you might not understand the difference between all of the different styles and that’s understandable. There are a wide variety of interior design styles to familiarize yourself with, all of which are a little different.
McCreary Homes Inc. has highlighted some of the most popular interior design styles to help you decide which one to incorporate into your home.
According to Adorable Home, modern style is a “celebration of material, technology and composition through authenticity, transparency and efficiency.” Modern was inspired by the modernist art movement which started at the beginning of the 20th century. In a home with modern style, you’ll see lots of clean lines, functionality, and simplicity.
Mid-Century Modern Style
Mid-century modern style first became popular after World War II. Unlike modern design, mid-century modern style is known for vivid colors and puts an emphasis on crisp lines and wooden furniture. You’ll see lots of yellow, green and brown color tones in a mid-century modern home, but many people choose to switch it up with other vivid colors.
Minimalist style is often compared to modern design but is typically even simpler. If minimalism style is the focus in a home, you’ll probably see lots of neutral color palettes with tones of gray, white and black. Most things will have streamlined shapes with nothing more. This style was inspired heavily from traditional Japanese design.
If you’re in a room that features a lot of exposed steel, it’s probably designed with industrial style in mind. Industrial design pairs steel and metalwork with softer items, such as distressed wood, exposed brick, and warm colors. It often features brick walls with relatively cleaner lines.
